Neptune Fish Restaurant is a firm local favourite, serving fish landed close by, properly battered and fried, the kind of straightforward, unfussy meal that tastes better for being eaten within sight of the boats that caught it. Seahouses itself is the launch point for boat trips out to the Farne Islands, so it makes sense to time lunch either side of a puffin or seal-spotting trip, working up an appetite on the water or refuelling before the drive back to Chatton. Eat in if the weather’s behaving, or grab it wrapped and find a spot on the harbour wall, which is honestly the better option on a clear day. Go early evening to avoid the peak lunchtime queue, especially in summer. It’s simple, it’s reliably good, and it’s exactly the kind of unpretentious coastal meal that makes a Northumberland day trip feel complete before the drive back to the cottage.
